Health & Wellness

Promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being

We are committed to providing an environment that supports the physical, mental, and emotional health of our students and staff. Listed below are some of the ways we promote health and wellness in our programs.

One-on-one Support

We know that attending a pre-college program can be an exciting, but sometimes challenging experience. We also recognize that each student will have their own individual needs during the program. Students meet regularly with their program assistants to discuss questions and concerns.

Mindfulness Space

Within our residence hall, students will find our dedicated mindfulness space. This space contains activities designed to help relax the body and mind and help reduce stress. Students can use the space as often as they want during non-curfew hours.

Reflection Corner

Located in the first floor lobby, our reflection corner encourage students to participate in quiet reflection, express gratitude, and share highlights of their program experience.

Recharge Sundays

After a busy week, we take time on Sundays to recharge, reflect, and relax. Students are encouraged to sleep in and participate in restful activities such as:

Weekly Wellness Activities

Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits on a daily basis to attain better physical and mental health outcomes, so that instead of just surviving, you’re thriving. Weekly wellness activities are designed to support student health and relieve stress.

WashU Spaces for Prayer and Reflection

WashU offers a number of quiet campus areas where students can pause and reflect. A list of these spaces is available through the Office for Religious, Spiritual and Ethical Life..

South 40 Fitness Center

The South 40 Fitness Center is conveniently located on the South 40 residential area of campus not far from the residence hall. This center includes cardio and strength equipment. This facility is available for use by our students during the summer Monday-Friday from 5:00-7:00pm. A signed parent waiver is required in order to use the facility.

In addition, there are a number of outdoor spaces that students can use during the program including:

  • Basketball courts
  • Volleyball courts
  • Ultimate Frisbee/soccer fields
  • Recreational pool (not ideal for swimming laps)

Students should plan to bring their own equipment if they choose to use any of the above listed outdoor spaces.

Medical Care

If students become ill during the program, we will support them in making arrangements to visit Total Access Urgent Care. Routine and preventative care is not available on campus during the summer. For guidelines on medication and medical care during the program, please review Notification Regarding Medications and Medical Care.
