Kate Bloomquist holds a PhD from Washington University in St. Louis (2012) in American Literature, with a Certificate in the Teaching of College Writing. She is a Senior Lecturer in the College Writing Program; she teaches the “Place & Perspective” introductory writing course for first-year students. At the 2018 First-Year Finale, Dr. Bloomquist received the Outstanding Writing Faculty award, as decided by first-year students.
She has also taught courses in research, literature and US women writers, as well as coordinating program assessment for the College Writing Program. In recent years, she has enjoyed designing online courses for her students and immersing herself in the exciting innovations in curriculum design at the university level.
For Arts & Sciences Pre-College Programs, she has designed and taught courses in Personal Narrative Writing, Communications, and Creative Writing. She has been an instructor with pre-college programs since 2015.
When she isn’t reading and writing with Washington University students, she enjoys spending time in Forest Park, running, and experiencing the natural world in Michigan. Above all, she believes in the influence of stories. Stories change us. That’s what she knows and tries to live each day. She is also a strong advocate of wellness & self-care: sleep, nutrition and exercise are pivotal for writing!
Dr. Bloomquist teaches the Exploration Course in Personal Narrative as well as the Creative Immersion Institute.
