Health & Wellness
Promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being
We are committed to providing an environment that supports the physical, mental, and emotional health of our students and staff. Listed below are some of the ways we promote health and wellness in our programs.
One-on-one Support
We know that attending a pre-college program can be an exciting, but sometimes challenging experience. We also recognize that each student will have their own individual needs during the program. Students meet regularly with their program assistants to discuss questions and concerns.
Mindfulness Space
Within our residence hall, students will find our dedicated mindfulness space. This space contains activities designed to help relax the body and mind and help reduce stress. Students can use the space as often as they want during non-curfew hours.
Reflection Corner
Located in the first floor lobby, our reflection corner encourage students to participate in quiet reflection, express gratitude, and share highlights of their program experience.
Recharge Sundays
After a busy week, we take time on Sundays to recharge, reflect, and relax. Students are encouraged to sleep in and participate in restful activities such as:
- walking in neighboring Forest Park;
- visiting the special exhibitions in Olin Library;
- or lounging in the Butterfly Garden with a picnic lunch or a good book.
Weekly Wellness Activities
Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits on a daily basis to attain better physical and mental health outcomes, so that instead of just surviving, you’re thriving. Weekly wellness activities are designed to support student health and relieve stress. Some of our most popular activities include running club, Pilates and yoga workshops, and the residence hall farmer's market.
WashU Spaces for Prayer and Reflection
WashU offers a number of quiet campus areas where students can pause and reflect. A list of these spaces is available through the Office for Religious, Spiritual and Ethical Life..
Outdoor Spaces
There are a number of outdoor spaces that students can use during the program including:
- Basketball courts
- Volleyball courts
- Tennis courts
- Ultimate frisbee/soccer fields
Students are welcome to bring their own equipment, but we will also have equipment available to borrow.
Medical Care
If students become ill during the program, we will support them in making arrangements to visit Total Access Urgent Care. Routine and preventative care is not available on campus during the summer. For guidelines on medication and medical care during the program, please review Notification Regarding Medications and Medical Care.
Please note that memberships and access to the Sumers Recreation Center is limited to individuals over the age of 18.
